Research Funding Application

The Marriner S. Eccles Institute for Economics Quantitative Analysis is soliciting applications to support academic research in business economics, economics, or applied economics.

The Marriner S. Eccles Institute Research Funding program seeks to support significant research in business economics and related fields. We will consider research projects that are theoretical, empirical, or both. Priority will be given to scholarly research that is aimed at publication in peer-reviewed journals. This program will provide faculty with grants up to $10,000 for a period of two years to support scholarly projects and publications. Grants may be used to cover costs associated with data acquisition, to hire research assistance (through the university), publication, and other direct research expenses, however they may not be used to cover salary or conference participation for project investigators.

Applications should include (1) a 100 word abstract (2) a research proposal of no more than two pages (3) the CV of the investigator and (4) a budget outline. The abstract should include the project’s research question, research methods, and plan for publication. The research proposal must include a clear description of the project and its objectives, specific research questions, justification for the project, and a detailed, concise description of methodology. The budget must specify the specific research-related expenditures the grant will cover.

Proposals are evaluated on their significance, soundness, merit, and likelihood of successful completion by the Committee. We will consider an application for seed support for early-stage as well as applications for funding of larger and more well-developed research agendas. Priority will be given to untenured tenure track faculty at the University, but applications from tenured faculty will also be considered.

The recipient of any grant is required to submit a one-page, single-spaced Final Report within three months of the project’s end-date. If the grant produces a tangible application, the recipient should send a copy of the product to the Institute and should acknowledge the Marriner S. Eccles Institute in any published results.
